Jewellery

We have a large collection of tribal jewellery sourced from Afghanistan and the tribal areas of north-western Pakistan. These include pendants, bracelets, earrings, rings, belts and anklets.

Afghanistan is famous for its lapis lazuli (one of only two countries in the world with lapis mines). Lapis was ground down in the past to create ultramarine paint, much prized by Renaissance artists in Europe. In addition to lapis jewellery we have small and large pieces of polished lapis lazuli available.

There are no local sources of silver or gold in Afghanistan and Pakistan, so much of the jewellery is set in alloys made by melting down old coins. In addition to semiprecious stones, you may find pieces using glass, enamel, old coins, and plastic and stone beading – everything has a decorative value, regardless of its origin.

We also stock a range of high-quality silver and semi-precious stone jewellery from Tradition Textile and Jewellery Pty Ltd (www.traditiontextilesandjewellery.com).
